Hashmatullah Shahidi was born on Friday, 4 November 1994 (age 29 years; as of 2023) in Logar, Afghanistan. His zodiac sign is Scorpio. His father introduced him to cricket when he was a child, and at the age of 9, he started playing in local tournaments. When his father saw that he was playing well, his father got him enrolled at a cricket academy in Kabul where he received further training. He later became a professional cricketer.

He played for Amo Region in the 2014 T20 season, Band-e-Amir Dragons from 2014 to 2016 T20 seasons and Afghanistan Cricket Board Development Squad and Kabul in the 2016 T20 season. He played for Kamal Khan Dam Builders in the 2021 Kamal Khan Dam Trophy and scored his first T20 century with 102 runs off 52 balls.

He was selected for the Afghanistan Under-17 team in 2008, the Afghanistan Under-19 team in 2009, and Afghanistan A in 2014. He played in the 2010 Under-19 World Cup.

Test

Hashmutullah Shahidi played his debut test match on 14 June 2018 against India in M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He scored his first test fifty on 15 March 2019 against Ireland with a score of 61 runs in the first innings. On 10 March 2021, during the match against Zimbabwe, he scored 200 runs not out and became the first Afghanistani batsman to score a double century in a test.

Shahidi made his ODI debut on 2 October 2013 against Kenya at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. On 25 September 2016, he made his first ODI half-century with 72 runs against Bangladesh.

  • His batting style is left-handed, and his bowling style is right-arm off-break.
  • During the match against England in the 2019 ODI World Cup, Hashmatullah was hit on the head by a bouncer from England pace bowler Mark Wood. His helmet developed a crack due to the impact, and he also fell on the ground following which the doctors of the team asked him to get retired hurt; however, he continued to bat. In the press conference after the innings, he said that he got off the ground and continued batting because his mother was watching the match and his brother was also present on the ground.
