In 1964, the couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Pranck (aged 57 years; as of 2021). In 1969, he met Chantal Compagnon, and Charles left Desnoyers to be with Compagnon. Talking about his relationship with Compagnon and their split, she said,
We met at an early age then he met another woman, also called Chantal. We saw each other again but we decided not to live together because, though we understand each other, I am very independent.”
The day he got married to Compagnon, Desnoyers welcome their second child, a girl named Muriel Anouk.

In an interview, Chantal revealed that Charles was in contact with his children, and he regularly wrote to them and sent cassettes through which he spoke to them.
They know his past but they are not judgemental. They love him. You know, it’s not possible to judge. Human nature is too complicated.”

- In an interview in 1995, Charles’ lawyer revealed that Desnoyers was suffering from cancer of the abdomen. Talking about it in a telephonic interview, she said,
I told him not to tell anyone. Charles should not have spoken about it.”
- In an interview, she talked about her relationship with Charles and said,
Charles is a very dear friend. We are very close. I write to him twice a week. I have a great tenderness for him. We understand each other. I don’t think he loves me. He needs me, that’s all.”
- Defending Charles and his crimes, she said,
Well, I don’t want to say. It’s personal. He’s not responsible, you can’t judge him the way you would other normal people. I don’t think he realises what he does.”
