On 30 March 1983, Vidya got married to the former Indian cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth. The couple welcomed their first child Adithyaa Srikkanth on 4 March 1984. Adithyaa is a former cricketer, and he is the founder and CEO of Zealcity Studios, a software company in Chennai. Vidya gave birth to her second son, Anirudha Srikkanth, on 14 April 1987. Anirudha has played for the Indian Premier League cricket teams Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad.

During an interview, while talking about Krishnamachari Srikkanth, Vidya said,
Before any major cricket Test series, Srikkanth will, without fail, pay a visit to the Guruvayur temple. He is superstitious and wears several charms around his neck which he constantly looks at after every stroke. He even prays while batting!”
