Sapna Choudhary is an Indian dancer, singer, performer, and actress. She participated in Bigg Boss Season 11 as a commoner. She made her debut as the lead in a film with “Dosti Ke Side Effects” in 2019.

Parents & Siblings

Her father, Bhupendra Atri worked in a private company. He passed away when Sapna was 12 years old. Her mother’s name is Neelam Choudhary. She has a brother named Karan Choudhary.

Husband & Children

In January 2020, she married Veer Sahu, a singer by profession. The couple got married in secret at a temple and announced their marriage at a later date.

Sapna gave birth to their son in October 2020 and introduced him through her Instagram account on 15 December 2020.

Career

Sapna started her dancing career at the age of 12. After her father passed away, the responsibility to sustain her family fell on her shoulders. Due to the financial problems in her home, she started dancing. She later founded Arkestra Group, one of the leading orchestra groups in India. Her song ‘Solid Body’ was a hit among the audience.

In 2017, she participated in one of the most controversial reality shows Bigg Boss Season 11.

Sapna has appeared in the item number dances in Bollywood films such as Veere Di Wedding (2018) and Nanu Ki Janu (2018). She made her debut as a lead actress in the film, Dosti Ke Side Effects (2019).

Politics

In 2019, Sapna joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). She had campaigned for BJP during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. She joined the BJP during a membership drive held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi. She was the first person to join through the membership drive in Delhi.

Rumours Of Sapna Joining Congress

In March 2019 it was reported that Sapna joined the Congress party and had met with Congress General Secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia before joining. It was also reported that she wanted to compete in the Lok Sabha elections from Mathura against Hema Malini of the BJP. The Congress chief of Uttar Pradesh, Raj Babbar tweeted a picture of Sapna with Priyanka Gandhi Vadra to welcome her to Congress.

Sapna denied the claims that she had joined the Congress. She cleared that the picture was from a previous meeting with Priyanka Gandhi and did not mean she intended to join the Congress. BJP supported her statement and shamed Congress for their actions.

Sapna is a singer and has put out many songs. She has also starred in their music videos. In 2019 she sang “Mat Ched Balam” with Gagan Haryanvi and starred in the music video as well. In 2020 she sang and starred in the video of “Balam Alto”. She also sang “Chatak Matak” with Renuka Panwar. In 2022 she put out many songs such as “Balam”, “Pani Chhalke”, “Kaamini”, “Lapete” etc. In 2023, she put out “#Chori”, “Jale”, “Jale 2” etc. In 2024, she put out the lo-fi version of Jale 2. She also sang “Gori Vi Halwe Halwe Chal” and many other songs.

Sapna has appeared in several music videos. In 2021, she starred in the music videos of Tiger Zinda Hai, Gajban, India Gate etc. In 2022 she starred in the music videos of “Chora Meri Jan S” with Akash Khatri, “Dil Batte Jaan” sung by Bintu Pabra, “Laal Duppata” etc.

Controversies

Accused of Insulting a Caste

In 2016, she was accused of insulting a particular caste at a stage show through a song that she sang. After that, a person named Satpal Tanwar ran an online campaign against her to harass her. Sapna even attempted suicide at her residence by consuming rat poison because of depression. She had written a suicide note at that time which went viral after her entry in Bigg Boss 11.

Arrest Warrant

In August 2022, an arrest warrant was issued against Sapna by a Lucknow court after the court found that she had breached a contract to perform on stage in Lucknow in 2018. Dowry Case

In 2023, it was reported that a case was filed against Sapna, her brother, and her mother for making dowry demands and harassing her sister-in-law. The case was registered at the Women’s Police Station in Palwal, Haryana. Sapna’s brother got married in 2018. His wife alleged in her complaint that the family demanded dowry from her and went on to harass and sexually exploit her when she did not meet their demands. ^[3]The Times of India

Rumours Of Sapna’s Death

In 2021, rumours of Sapna’s death were being circulated. It was alleged that she passed away after getting into an accident near Sirsa, Haryana. The rumours were proven to be false. Sapna stated that the rumours scared her family and friends and that it was an upsetting experience.
