Sandeep Nangal was an Indian kabaddi player who was specialised in the position of stopper. With the exception of Punjab, he had dominated the sport for almost a decade and had represented India internationally at Canada, the United States, and the United Kingdom.

Sandeep Nangal Ambian [1]The Indian Express was born in Nangal Ambian village of Jalandhar, Punjab, India. His real age has been a matter of controversy. According to some sources, he was born on 9 September 1981 (38 years; age at the time of death) whereas some other sources say that the athlete was born on 9 September 1983 (40 years; age at the time of death). His zodiac sign was Virgo. He attended Mata Punjab Kaur Public School, Nangal Ambia, Punjab for his primary and secondary education, Later, he got himself enrolled at the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Punjab for pursuing his higher education.

Career

Sandeep Ambia, the Kabaddi player, was quite young when he decided to pursue a career in the sport. To work on his muscles and flexibility, he used to train for more than 5 to 6 hours every day.mHe began playing Kabaddi with the Vaccuar Kabaddi Club in 2006. During the tournament, he also won an Alto 800 car for his extra ordinary performance in matches.

Death

Sandeep Nangal, who ruled Kabaddi for nearly a decade, was assassinated on the spot between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m. on March 14, 2022. Sandeep was visiting India to organise kabaddi competitions and attend weddings in Punjab. In Nivin Mallian, Jalandhar, a gang of miscreants opened fire with 20 rounds at Kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal, killing him instantly. Unidentified assassins opened fire on Sandeep as he fled the competition area, killing him instantly and injuring a youngster, according to reports, however he is currently safe. Inspector Parminder Singh Station House officer (SHO) of Nakodar Sadar police station in a press releases assured justice in the case and said,

Sandeep had come here for his team at the kabaddi match and around 6 pm in the evening, four unidentified youths who came in a Swift car opened fire at him, killing Sandeep on the spot and one of his friend also sustained bullet injuries, whose condition is now stable.”

The Police officer added,

We have done a preliminary investigation but the cause of the attack is yet unknown, though the killers will soon be arrested.”

Captain Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister of Punjab, expressed his astonishment at Sandeep’s murder via a social media post. He tweeted,

Shocking incident of murder of international kabaddi player Sandeep Nangal Ambiaan in broad daylight. The guilty must be booked at the earliest and given an exemplary punishment. My deepest condolences to his supporters and the bereaved family.”

In a video of the incident that has gone viral, assailants can be seen standing in the woods shooting someone. At least seven to eight shots are fired near an open arena where a match is taking place. When the assailants opened fire, the tournament was interrupted in the middle of its run. The accused then fled the scene.

  • The president of the Major League Kabaddi Federation and the Shahkot Lions Kabaddi Cup was the former captain of the Indian squad in ‘circle-style’ kabaddi.
  • Sandeep was using athletics to help kids overcome their drug problems.
  • He’s also used his social media accounts to show off his car collection. He also owns a large number of tractors and other agricultural equipment in Punjab.
  • At Season 3 of Pro Kabbaddi, Nangal Sandeep was also named Best Defender of the Tournament.
  • In 2011, he was chosen to represent India at the Junior Asiads.
