Rahul Sipligunj was born on Saturday, 22 August 1989 (age 33 years; as of 2022) in Dhoolpet, Hyderabad. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He attended Loyola High School in Hyderabad. He pursued his undergraduate from the Narayana Junior College in Hyderabad. Rahul was passionate about singing from a very young age. He often used to sing Hyderabadi folk songs at home. Once, when he was singing a Hyderabadi folk song and was playing music with the help of kitchen utensils, his father saw him and discovered his talent for singing. His father encouraged him to pursue singing as his career and sent him to Pandit Vitthal Rao to receive professional training.

Rahul Sipligunj follows Hinduism. His father owns a hair salon. His mother is a homemaker. He has a younger sister, Shivapriya Akul. His younger brother is Nikill Kiran.

Relationships/Affairs

In 2019, while shooting for the music video ‘Hey Pilla,’ Rahul met Rathika Rose, an actor and model. Soon, they became good friends, and later, fell in love with each other. The couple, however, got separated after dating for a few years.

Career

Rahul began his career by singing songs at home and publishing them on YouTube. His songs got a lot of appreciation and he soon started recording in a recording studio. Following this, he got offers from many companies. In 2012, he got his first break as a playback singer in the Telugu movie “Speedunnodu”. He also got an offer to be a playback singer for the Telugu movie “Josh”. Although he recorded his first song for the movie “Speedunnodu”, it was released much later, due to which “Josh” became his debut movie as a playback singer.

Simultaneously, Rahul kept getting offers to do stage shows, and world tours, but, he declined them all; as he wanted to be a good singer and a musician at first, and then move on to stage shows. Once, in an interview, he stated that he could have earned a lot of money through those shows, but he wanted to focus on himself before giving commitments to others. In 2012, he started doing playback singing for films. He calls himself an independent musician and likes working for himself, not for a company or brand.

In 2013, he produced his first music video “Hey Pilla”. Since then, he has produced more than 20 music videos. He has gained a lot of popularity, and he has also got the opportunity to work with many stars from the Tollywood industry. Rahul is often invited as a judge on many reality TV shows such as, “Sa Re Ga Ma Pa” (Telugu), “Comedy Nights (Telugu)”, and various others.

In 2019, Rahul participated in the popular reality TV show Bigg Boss (Telugu Season 3), which is hosted by Akkineni Nagarjuna. On 3 November 2019, Rahul was declared as the winner of Bigg Boss Telugu (Season 3).

In 2022, he sang the popular song Naatu Naattu in the movie ‘RRR’ in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil and Hindi languages.

Award

At the 80th Golden Globe Awards in January 2023, he won Golden Globe Award for the song “Naatu Naatu” from the Telugu film RRR (2022) along with composer MM Keeravani and singer Kaala Bhairava.

Controversy

On 27 July 2018, Rahul was charged with drinking and driving. When he was stopped by the police, he tried to run away, and upon being caught by the police, he resisted giving them his driving licence and vehicle registration documents. The police filed a case against him, seized his vehicle, and he was told to appear for counselling.

On 3 April 2022, he attracted controversy after he was arrested by the police in connection to the raid on a rave party by the police. ^[1]India Today
