Mowed Down by her Boyfriend Ashwajit Gaikwad
On 11 December 2023, Ashwajit Gaikwad and his friends allegedly invited Priya Singh to come to a party at the Court Yard Hotel at around 1 am in Ovla, Thane, after which she went to the hotel. According to Priya, upon arriving at the venue around 3 am, she saw Ashwajit with another woman, reportedly identified as his wife by others. Despite Priya’s multiple attempts, Ashwajit declined to talk to her. Simultaneously, his friend Romil Patil allegedly verbally abused her. When she requested Gaikwad to intervene and stop Patil from mistreating her, Ashwajit allegedly responded by slapping and strangling her, biting her hand, and forcefully pushing her away. [3]Hindustan Times Reportedly, after the assault and argument with Ashwajit and his friends, Priya Singh went to retrieve her bag and mobile phone from his SUV when the men assaulted her. According to her, they initially attempted to ram the SUV car (Land Rover Defender) into her from behind near a divider. They then came back and intentionally ran the vehicle over her right leg before swiftly leaving the location. In an interview, she talked about the incident and said,
While they got into the car and started moving, I realised that my phone and purse were in the car. As soon as I reached the door of the Range Rover, I heard him (Ashwajit Gaikwad) say ‘uda de isko’ (ram into her) to his driver Sagar. He sped up immediately and I fell to the ground as I was hit by the left side of the car, after which he drove the rear left wheel over my right leg.” [4]Hindustan Times
As a result, she allegedly sustained injuries to her stomach, back, and arms, and her right leg was in a cast. She was hospitalized in the ICU at Infinity Hospital in Thane. Ashwajit Gaikwad, along with Romil Patil and Sagar Shelke, were booked under Indian Penal Code sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and others at the Kasarvadavali police station. I had a four-and-a-half-year relationship with my boyfriend. We were completely in love with each other. I did not know earlier that he was married. Later, when I came to know, he told me that they (his wife and him) were not together anymore and that they had separated. He said that he wanted to marry me. I had been staying with him for a long time. When I went to meet him that night, he was with his wife. In an interview, Ashwajit Gaikwad denied all the allegations made by the Priya Singh and said that the entire incident was an attempt to extort money from him. He shared,
Whatever has been portrayed is untrue. She (Priya Singh) is just a friend of mine. She came in a drunken condition to a hotel where I was involved in a family function and forced me to talk to her. When I refused, she started abusing me. She also assaulted my friends when they tried to intervene in the matter. When my driver, Shelke, started my car so that she would step aside, she fell.
