Danish began his political journey with the Janata Dal (Secular) and rose to the level of All India General Secretary of the party. In 2002, he contested the Uttar Pradesh assembly election from the Garhmukteshwar constituency but lost. In 2018, he took the responsibility of forming a post-poll coalition between the Congress and Janata Dal (S) in Karnataka. He was assigned as the convenor of the Coalition Coordination and Monitoring Committee, consisting of five members from both political parties. However, the coalition was short-lived, as it only lasted for 14 months. This was due to the failure of the then Chief Minister, H. D. Kumaraswamy, to pass the floor test in the assembly, which led to his resignation from his position. Afterwards, B.S. Yediyurappa from the BJP proved the majority and was appointed as the new Chief Minister of the state.
In 2019, he also played a key role in establishing the pre-election coalition between the Bahujan Samaj Party, headed by Mayawati, and the Janata Dal(S). [4]Mumbai Mirror In March 2019, he joined the BSP which declared him a candidate in the general election from the Amroha constituency. [5]The Hindu
