In 2018, Ashwanth made his debut in the Tamil film industry with the film ‘Sandakozhi 2’ as Sembaruthi’s (protagonist) brother. In 2019, he appeared in the horror film ‘Airaa’ as Babloo, Rasukutty in a dark comedy film ‘Super Deluxe,’ as (young) Saravanan in ‘Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu 2,’ as Kutta in the film ‘Thambi,’ and in the film ‘Action’ as Ashwanth. He played the role of Arjun in ‘God Father’ in 2020. In 2021, he was part of the film ‘Jagame Thandhiram’ in which he played the role of a boy named Theeran, who is one of the survivors of an aerial attack on a village in Sri Lanka during the Sri Lankan Civil War in the film. In 2022, Ashwanth was featured in the Tamil language films ‘My Dear Bootham’ and ‘The Legend’ as Thirunavukarasu and as a supporting cast respectively.

Ashwanth Ashokkumar made his appearance on television for the first time in 2016 as a contestant in a Tamil reality show ‘Junior Super Star,’ an adaption of a Hindi language reality show titled ‘India’s Best Dramebaaz.’ He was the winner of the respective season. In 2017, he appeared as Ashwanth in a television serial titled ‘Mella Thiranthathu Kathavu’ (Season 2) aired on Zee Tamil. In the same year, Ashwanth participated in a stand-up comedy and a dance reality show ‘Junor Senior’ and ‘Zee Dance League’ respectively. In 2020, he appeared as a guest in a Tamil game show ‘Genes’ (Season 3).

After appearing as an actor in films and television series, Ashwanth decided to come out as a writer and director amid the nationwide lockdown in the wake of Covid-19, and he made a YouTube series ‘Ondipulli,’ a kids’ drama. Everything in this series including the story, screenplay, dialogue, and voice-over was done by Ashwanth. The story focuses on the life of animals in a jungle, where two tigers hunt animals, causing desolation in the jungle. One of the tigers decides to stop this practice of destruction over which the other tiger gets angry.
