Amrin Shaikh was born into a humble family. Her father had a restaurant, but it didn’t work out. He lost all his money and was deep in debt. Due to financial constraints, Amrin’s mother and grandmother would make samosas at home, and then, Munawar used to sell them at a stall to make ends meet. In an interview, Munawar talked about the same and said,
My mother and grandmother would make samosas at home, and I started a stall outside our house where I’d fry them up and sell them. It was a struggle. I burned my fingers, had hot oil splutter on me. But I became a pro with time, and this business worked.”
Additionally, Munawar would pursue various odd jobs to support his family. In an interview, he talked about the same and said,
We had a restaurant, but it didn’t work out. Dad lost all his money, was under massive debt, so I had to work. I worked for two months at a gift shop from 9 in the morning to 8 in the night. I made ₹850 per month for working 11 hours a day. I had to walk 3.5km to the shop. I didn’t like it, which is when we decided to do something else.”
Amrin’s mother committed suicide consuming acid in 2007. In 2020, her father passed away, after suffering from paralysis.

In 2024, during the family week on Bigg Boss 17, Amrin Shaikh paid a visit to the Bigg Boss house to meet her brother, Munawar Faruqui, who was a contestant on it. In the episode, upon Amrin’s entrance, the contestants were instructed to participate in the freeze-and-release game. As she reunited with her brother, both became emotional and shared a heartfelt hug, leaving everyone in the house heavy-hearted. Amrin noticed Munawar’s weight loss and offered words of encouragement, acknowledging him as the pillar of strength for the entire family. When released from the frozen state, Abhishek Kumar hurried to Amrin, urging her to boost her brother’s spirits for the remaining two weeks. She advised him against sharing personal details with other housemates. She warned him that some were passing judgment on Munawar for being divorced.
