Rohit Kumar is an Indian Kabaddi player. He is known for playing in the Pro Kabaddi League. In season 6 of the Pro Kabaddi League, he was the captain of the Bengaluru Bulls and is known to be one of the best Kabaddi players in India.

Rohit Kumar Chillar was born on Friday, 19 January 1990 (age 33 years; as of 2024) in Nizampur, Delhi. His zodiac sign is Capricorn. Rohit Kumar grew up playing Kabaddi and was inspired to become a professional Kabaddi player.

Rohit’s father, Vijay Singh, was in Delhi Police and has been a national-level Kabaddi player, and his mother is a homemaker. Rohit has two siblings, a sister, and a brother.

Wife & Children

In March 2015, Rohit Kumar got married to Lalita Dabbas at a traditional Hindu wedding in Delhi. In October 2016, Lalita Dabbas committed suicide.

In 2020, Rohit married got married to Priya. The couple has two children, a daughter named Nitara (born in December 2020), and a son (born in June 2022).

In 2009, Rohit Kumar joined the Indian Navy and was posted in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.

Pro Kabaddi League

In 2016, Rohit Kumar made his debut in season 3 of the Pro Kabaddi League with Patna Pirates. He played a total of 12 matches during the tournament. He maintained a raid strike rate of 57 per cent and a tackle strike rate of 50 per cent. He earned 109 points overall in the tournament. During season 4, Patna Pirates won the tournament. During his debut season in the Pro Kabaddi League, he won the title of Most Valuable Player (MVP).

In June 2016, Rohit Kumar was brought by Bengaluru Bulls to ply in season 4 of the Pro Kabaddi League. He played a total of 14 matches during the tournament. He maintained a raid strike rate of 40 per cent and a tackle strike rate of 44 per cent. He earned 100 points overall in the tournament. During the first match for Bengaluru Bulls, he won the title of “Raider of the Match.”

In 2017, Rohit Kumar was retained by Bengaluru Bulls as a raider to play in season 5 of the Pro Kabaddi League. He played a total of 22 matches during the tournament. He maintained a raid strike rate of 52 per cent and a tackle strike rate of 44 per cent. He earned 231 points overall in the tournament. During the tournament, he won many accolades including Player of the Match and Telugu Titans Moment of the Match.

In 2018, Rohit Kumar was retained by Bengaluru Bulls as a raider to play in season 6 of the Pro Kabaddi League. He was also appointed as the captain of the Bengaluru Bulls. He played a total of 24 matches during the tournament. He maintained a raid strike rate of 47 per cent and a tackle strike rate of 30 per cent. He earned 171 points overall in the tournament.

In 2019, Rohit Kumar was retained by Bengaluru Bulls as a raider to play in season 7 of the Pro Kabaddi League. He played a total of 19 matches during the tournament. He maintained a raid strike rate of 38 per cent and a tackle strike rate of 30 per cent. He earned 100 points overall in the tournament.

In 2021, Rohit Kumar was brought by Telugu Titans for Rs. 36 Lakhs to play in season 8 of the Pro Kabaddi League. He played a total of 8 matches during the tournament. He maintained a raid strike rate of 24 per cent and a tackle strike rate of 29 per cent. He earned 18 points overall in the tournament. In 2022, Rohit Kumar was brought by Gujarat Giants to play in season 9 of the Pro Kabaddi League. He played a total of 2 matches during the tournament. He maintained a raid strike rate of 25 per cent. He earned 1 point overall in the tournament.

National Kabaddi Team 

In 2017, Rohit was selected in the National Kabaddi Team to represent India at the Asian Kabaddi Championship in Gorgan, Iran. India won the tournament by defeating Pakistan in the final by 36–22.

In June 2018, Rohit was selected by the Selection Committee of the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India to play at the Dubai Kabaddi Masters. He was also a part of the national squad for the 2016 South Asian Games held in Guwahati and Shillong.

Controversies

Rohit Kumar got arrested in Dowry-Death Case

On 21 October 2016, Rohit Kumar was arrested from Colaba in Mumbai three days after his wife Lalita committed suicide. He was taken into police custody, Chillar’s two days in police custody ended on 25 October 2016 when he was brought before a metropolitan magistrate, who placed him under judicial custody until November 8. After the investigation, the police found a two-hour audio message and a 25-minute video that Lalita had made before committing suicide, which claimed that her in-laws harassed her for minor issues. There was also a a suicide note in which she wrote: “I am not strong enough to survive this, I have decided to quit.” After the investigation, a case of dowry death was registered against Rohit Kumar and his parents on a complaint from Karan Singh, Lalita’s father. ^[2]Hindustan Times) Later, Rohit uploaded a video on his Facebook account claiming that he never hurt his wife and he still could not believe that she was no more. He said,

I can’t imagine she is gone…I couldn’t even see her for the last time, I played for the country, never harmed anybody. I am sure my wife did not say anything like this. My father-in-law knows too that I never asked for dowry, I am alive only to prove my innocence. I never did anything wrong…When I get justice, I will go to (my wife).”

Reportedly, Lalita in her audio recording also claimed that her husband was unhappy with her, which is why she took that step.
