In an interview, on being asked about playing the role of a father in the Bollywood film Janhit Mein Jaari, Ishtiyak revealed that he was initially unsure to take the role, but he later accepted the offer and said,
I’m playing the father of Nushrratt Bharuccha who has a lingerie business. When this role was offered to me, I thought there was some misunderstanding as to how I would look like her father but then director Jai Basantu and writer Raaj Shandilya explained to me the character graph. Also casting director Parag said I was fit for the role, so I started gearing up for the same.” The Times of India
In February 2018, Ishtiyak Khan made his television debut with the show “Har Shaakh Pe Ullu Baithaa Hai” in which he played the role of Puttan on StarPlus. In 2022, he appeared in the show Hasi Ka Hahakaar on The Q.
Since childhood, Ishtiyak Khan aspired to become an actor. During his school days, he participated in many theatre plays and drama competitions. Ishtiyak performed in a few plays for the theatre group Anveshan Theatre Group in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. After graduating from the National School of Drama, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. In 1989, he joined a theatre group, the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) in Juhu, Mumbai. Ishtiyak performed his first street play Gili Gili Fu, which was directed by Devesh Mishra. His first stage show was Ek Tha Gadha Urf Aladad Khan, which was directed by Satish Sharma.
In November 2019, Ishtiyak Khan won the Special Festival Mention Award at Moonwhite Films International Film Fest 2019.
