Film
In 2009, Ishtiyak Khan made his Bollywood debut with the film Agyaat in which he played the role of Laxman.
In 2010, he appeared in the film Phas Gaye Re Obama in which he played the role of an English teacher.
Later, he appeared in a few Bollywood films like Tees Maar Khan as a villager (2010), Jolly LLB as Vasu (2013), Jai Ho! Democracy as Santosh (2015), and Tamasha as Rajesh Autowala (2015). In 2017, Ishtiyak appeared in two films, Anaarkali of Aarah as Hiraman Tiwari and Fukrey Returns as Tiddey. In 2018, he appeared as Sunny in the film FryDay. In 2019, he played the role of Chaurasia in the film Bharat, and in 2020, he appeared in the film Ludo as Sukumar Sinha on Netflix.
In 2022, he appeared in Bollywood films Khuda Haafiz: Chapter 2 – Agni Pariksha as Shailendra Thakur, Aanchhi as Chaman, and Janhit Mein Jaari as Purushottam Tiwari.
In an interview, on being asked about playing the role of a father in the Bollywood film Janhit Mein Jaari, Ishtiyak revealed that he was initially unsure to take the role, but he later accepted the offer and said,
I’m playing the father of Nushrratt Bharuccha who has a lingerie business. When this role was offered to me, I thought there was some misunderstanding as to how I would look like her father but then director Jai Basantu and writer Raaj Shandilya explained to me the character graph. Since childhood, Ishtiyak Khan aspired to become an actor. During his school days, he participated in many theatre plays and drama competitions. Ishtiyak performed in a few plays for the theatre group Anveshan Theatre Group in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. After graduating from the National School of Drama, he moved to Mumbai to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. In 1989, he joined a theatre group, the Indian People’s Theatre Association (IPTA) in Juhu, Mumbai. Ishtiyak performed his first street play Gili Gili Fu, which was directed by Devesh Mishra. His first stage show was Ek Tha Gadha Urf Aladad Khan, which was directed by Satish Sharma.
