Career

Chayan Dutta serves as a scientist/engineer-G at UR Rao Satellite Centre, Department of Space. He also holds the position of Deputy Project Director for the ‘On Board Command Telemetry, Data Handling & Storage System, Lander, Chandrayaan-3’. The subsystem serves as the central control hub for all spacecraft operations, functioning as the primary intelligence governing the orbiter’s functionalities. On 14 July 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched Chandrayaan-3, India’s third lunar mission. The spacecraft was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota using the Launch Vehicle Mark-III. On being appointed as the head of Chandrayaan-3 launch operations, Dutta conveyed his enthusiasm and said,

I am deeply honoured and humbled to have been entrusted with the responsibility. This mission represents a significant milestone for our nation and the global scientific community.”
