Chaoba Devi Oinam was born on Wednesday, 2 March 1988 (age 35; as of 2023) in Manipur. Her zodiac sign is Pisces. In 2011, she joined the Sports Authority of India (SAI) North-East Regional Centre and took sepak takraw training till 2016. She is currently serving as a Physical Education teacher in the Youth Services and Sports Department in Manipur.

Career

Chaoba Devi Oinam made her debut in the sports world with her first major championship at the Asian Games 2014 in South Korea. In an interview, she talked about her experience by reflecting on her sports journey,

My debut at the Asian Games was in 2014 in South Korea. Despite our best efforts, we couldn’t secure a medal. I redoubled my efforts in 2018, yet the podium eluded us once again. These setbacks were disheartening, to say the least. However, the invaluable experiences and lessons from those tournaments shaped both my team and me, fortifying our determination and strategy. This year, our efforts culminated in winning a bronze medal, making Idian’s maiden achievement in women’s Sepak Takraw at the Asian Games. These experience These experiences have armed me with insights and skills that I believe will prove cruciak in upcoming challenges. On Friday, 6 Oct 2023, the Indian women’s team consisting of Ayekpam Maipak Devi, Oinam Chaoba Devi, Khushbu, Elangbam Priya Devi, and Elangbam Leirentombi Devi bagged the first bronze medal for India in the women’s Sepak takraw regu event at the Asian Games 2022  in Hangzhou, the Republic of China.

Facts/Trivia

  • The Indian team consisting of Maipak Devi Ayekpam, Chaoba Devi Oinam, Khushbu, Priya Devi Elangbam and Leirentom Bi Devi Elangbam competed against Thailand in the semifinals and lost the match with the scores of 10-21 and 13-21. However, they won a bronze medal, which is the second medal that India won in Sepak Takraw after the Jakarta Asian Games in 2018.

  • In Sepak Takraw, both semifinalists are awarded a bronze medal each. The Indian team was defeated by the Thailand team and despite the competition, both the teams India and Thailand took a photograph after the match together. The chief coach of the Indian team, Hem Raj, disclosed in an interview that,

Our players wanted to have a memory of their semifinal match against Thailand. They are the best players in the world, and it was a great moment for our team to play against them.”
