Controversies
- In April 2018, the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Anil Baijal, removed Atishi along with 7 other people from their posts as Advisors. He stated- the Delhi Government did not seek permission before creating new posts and appointed advisors without informing the Centre or having its approval. AAP accused Anil Baijal of deliberately sacking Atishi and blamed the Centre for trying to suppress women.
- In May 2019, Atishi accused Gautam Gambhir of distributing pamphlets about Atishi containing insulting remarks about her. The pamphlet also included the names of Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia. In a press conference, she read the pamphlet and stated that Gautam Gambhir had these pamphlets distributed through newspapers directly to people’s homes. Gautam Gambhir denied these claims and challenged Kejriwal and Atishi that he would withdraw his candidature and quit politics if the charges against him are proved.
My Challenge no.2 @ArvindKejriwal @AtishiAAP
I declare that if its proven that I did it, I will withdraw my candidature right now. If not, will u quit politics?— Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) May 9, 2019
- In April 2024, she claimed that the BJP approached her to join them following which she received a show-cause notice from the Election Commission to prove her claim. The BJP earlier moved the Election Commission against her statement, saying it was a ‘false statement.’ [3]Business Standard On 28 May 2024, she was summoned by Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi in connection with the BJP defamation case. - She hit the headlines in October 2024 when she was asked to leave Bungalow Number 6, where Kejriwal lived as Delhi’s CM. She reportedly moved into the residence on 7 October 2024 without any approval from the authorities. On 9 October 2024, she was forced to leave the residence by the MCD, which later sealed the house. As per Lt Governor, Atishi’s moving into the house was not illegal, but it also violated the law as she did not follow the proper procedure to have a house allocated to her. He also claimed that the house was not officially designated as the CM’s house and could be handed over to any government official in Delhi.
