He was born in a middle-class family from Bihar.
His father, Arun Thakur, is a businessman and owns a shop in Noida. His mother’s name is Mamta Thakur, and his sister’s name is Dr. Aarti Thakur.
In 2012, while he was in school, he started practising cricket. He started as a gully cricketer and went on to become the fastest bowler in his school Sardar Patel School’s cricket team. He then became the vice-captain of his school cricket team. Shivam then joined Dhyan Chand National Stadium, Delhi for his further training. He was selected Under-11 cricket team from Delhi, and he went on to participate in the Under-16 cricket team from 2013 to 2014. After a ligament tear in 2015, he quit playing cricket and his dream of playing for the Indian cricket team was shattered. He then decided to start SDAF-School Games and Activity Development Foundation to support and motivate budding athletes in pursuing their careers in sports. SDGAF is a non-profit organisation that works for the up-gradation of students in
the field of sports. Later, the organisation was recognised by TAFISA, IAKS, and ICSSPE. He has been associated with various sports federations at the national and international levels. He has helped many children in achieving their goals in sports.
