Khushboo Mirza is an Indian scientist working with ISRO. She is an engineer and was a part of the team which developed the Chandrayaan 1 (India’s first lunar probe). She had also been selected for the development of the Chandrayaan 2.
Khushboo Mirza was born on 24 July 1985 (age 34 years; as in 2019) in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. Her zodiac sign is Leo. She did her schooling from the Krishna Bal Mandir Inter College, Amroha, UP. She pursued her B.Tech from the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Aligarh, UP in 2006. She was in a Hindi-medium school until class 10th. Khushboo was a very bright student, she always used to be the topper in school and during her college days. She was very interested in sports and used to participate in a lot of sporting events such as badminton and volleyball. She had advanced to the district level in volleyball. Khushboo took admission in AMU under the sports quota.
Khushboo’s father had passed away when she was 7 years old. He was an engineer and a businessman. He owned a petrol pump. After his death, Khushboo’s mother took over the business; to get her children through school and college. In her village, it was unusual for the women to work but still, her mother broke all norms and took over the business. Her husband had wished that his children be engineers and do something great for India. After his death, her mother had promised herself that she’ll fulfil his dream. Khushboo’s brother, Khushtar, is also an engineer. He studied from the Jamia Millia Islamia College, New Delhi. He gave up his dream of pursuing his engineering career to take over the business and help her mother.
Khushboo was very active and popular in college. She took part in many fests and science conventions. She even presented a paper on the Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology during a convention.

Khushboo Mirza follows Islam. Her father, Sikandar Mirza, passed away when she was seven years old, he owned a petrol pump. Her mother, Farhat Mirza, was a homemaker but took over her husband’s business after he passed away. Khushboo has a younger sister, Mahak Mirza, and an elder brother, Khushtar Mirza. Her sister is married and has a son. Khushboo is unmarried.
Khushboo got a job offer from Adobe Inc. after graduating from college. Even though she was offered a good package, she turned it down. She wanted to do something in the field of science, which would help India. After 4 months, she got a job offer from ISRO, and she took the job. Once in an interview, her mother said-
Even though Adobe offered a lot more salary than ISRO, it would have been foolish to join Adobe than ISRO”
She was offered a position as a technologist, in the department of satellite systems in ISRO.
Khushboo was included in the team that was to develop the Chandrayaan (India’s first lunar probe). She was in the Check-out division of the team. She was responsible for the design and the development of instruments and software, which acquire data from the satellite and perform tests on the probe, from the point of integration until lift-off.
She worked on this for 2 years and in October 2008, the Chandrayaan was ready to launch. On 23 October 2008. it was launched. Khushboo was present in the room when the rocket was launched. Khushboo and her colleagues ran to the roof to witness it. She termed the whole experience as mesmerizing.
Khushboo was selected in the team which was to develop the Chandrayaan 2. The second lunar probe was set to launch in 2009 but got delayed. The second probe was to be developed with a Russian firm, but the Russians could not provide the lander in time. India decided to develop the lander on its own and completed the whole development process by 2018. After extensively testing the rover and the lander, ISRO is set to launch the Chandrayaan 2 on 14 July 2019. Khushboo is the part of the Chandrayaan 2 team and will be present for the launch at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
Khushboo Mirza owns a Toyota Etios.
- Khushboo was the first girl ever in AMU to contest the Student Union election. Although she did not win, she inspired a lot of other girls to contest the Student Union elections.
- She was regularly sent to a lot of scientific conferences on behalf of ISRO.
- She was a speaker in the National ISRO Meet in 2012.
- Khushboo Mirza was invited to be the guest speaker at the World Geographic Information System (GIS) Day 2018.
- She loves travelling and often visits foreign countries with her sister and her family.
- She is fascinated with marine life and she often visits places where she can experience it.
- She enjoys the festival of Diwali and spends Diwali every year with her best friend as a ritual.
