Career

Singer

Vandana Vishwas’ singing got noticed while she was a college student and worked for All India Radio as a part-time singer. In 1993, just after finishing her architecture degree, she was invited by the Indian National TV Channel, Doordarshan to perform.

She also got the opportunity to perform at the well-known stage of the Acharya Brihaspati Sammelan conducted by Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai. Even though many Bollywood music directors approached Vandana after this performance, she chose an architecture career over singing due to her physical limitations and moved to Dubai. After a full-fledged 22-year career in architecture, Vandana declared her comeback as a singer with her debut album ‘Meera, the Lover’ in 2009. The songs are based on the story of the 16th-century Indian queen, Meera Bai’s unconditional love for Krishna.

In an interview, she expressed her return to singing and said,

I feel very, very happy when I sing. I feel very content. It is only me and music. I love music, it gives me happiness.”

• Samarsiddha (2014) – It is a single that is sung in Raag Ahir Bhairav and was released as a promotional track for the debut novel ‘Samarsiddha’ by Sandeep Nayyar.

• Parallels (2016) – It is an album that has a fusion of South Indian melodies with Westernised styles like Flamenco, Country, New-Age, Rock, African, and Ballad. Vandana debuted as a lyricist with this album. The song ‘Mai Beqaid (Flamenco)’ received popularity. It is inspired by the Sufi poem of revolutionary philosopher Baba Bulleh Shah.

• Nav Varsh Mangalkamna Geet (2021) – A Sanskrit hymn released on the New Year during the Covid pandemic.

Kavita Chaudhary made her television debut in 1986 with the television series ‘Apradhi Kaun!,’ which was broadcast on the channel DD National. In the same year, she acted in the TV series ‘Raj Se Swaraj.’ She gained immense popularity after she played the role of IPS Officer Kalyani Singh in the TV series ‘Udaan’ (1989-1991), which aired on DD National. She also worked as a writer, producer, and director for the TV series. The TV series was based on the life story of her sister, Kanchan Chaudhary Bhattacharya. Kanchan was the second woman to become an IPS officer, after Kiran Bedi.

In 2000, she worked as an actress, director, and producer for the television series ‘Your Honour,’ which aired on DD National. She played the lead role of Kaushalya in the television series. Later, the Minister of Information and Broadcasting at the time granted permission to continue the TV show.

• In 2014, she created her YouTube channel ‘Kaveta Chaudhry’ where she uploaded her vlogs in which she shared the stories related to her most popular TV show ‘Udaan.’ As of 2024, more than 2.17 K people follows her channel.

Theatre

He once attended a 15-day acting workshop organised by the Ekjute Theatre Group in Mumbai after which he was invited to join the group. His first performance with the group was in the play ‘Raja ki Rasoi’ at Prithvi Theatre in Mumbai. He continued to work with the group for many years and acted in plays like ‘Sandhya Chayya’ and ‘Doorbean.’

Shyam has worked in many television series. He appeared as ‘Raddiwala,’ a scrap dealer, in the daily soap opera ‘Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin,’ which aired on Sony Entertainment Television, in 2004. He appeared as Rajendra Jayantilal Joshi in Imagine TV’s series ‘Jasuben Jayantilaal Joshi Ki Joint Family’ from 2008 to 2009.

• As a child, Shyam used to attend Swadhyaya Parivara’s Bal Sanskar Kendra classes every weekend along with his sister. He often played lead roles in plays at the Vasant Utsav organised by the institute.

• Shyam took on various jobs during college to help with his family’s financial situation. He even worked as a salesman in a clothing store, where his boss was impressed by his communication skills.

• Shyam once purchased an annual subscription to the National Centre for the Performing Arts’ library to immerse himself in film studies.
