Uttarkashi Tunnel Rescue

The Uttarkashi Tunnel incident occurred at the Silkyara Tunnel on 12 November 2023, trapping 41 workers inside. The primary cause behind the collapse appears to be a lack of proper care and safety measures. Arnold Dix and his team were actively engaged in rescue efforts, employing various methods. Micro tunnelling was being utilized to access the trapped workers. The workers were waiting inside the tunnel for rescue, with limited access to food and water. The initial step involves digging a vertical shaft from the top of the hill down to the tunnel to reach the trapped individuals. The day after successfully rescuing 41 workers trapped inside a tunnel in Uttarakhand following a 17-day operation, tunnelling expert Arnold Dix expressed his intention to return to the makeshift temple outside the tunnel. He mentioned the need to go back there to say thank you. He said the success of the rescue operation of the trapped workers was a ‘miracle.’ In an interview, while talking about why he prayed at the makeshift temple of local deity Baba Bokh Naag Ji, he said,

I have to go to the temple because I promised to say thank you for what happened. If you haven’t noticed, we have just witnessed a miracle.” [3]NDTV

In an interview, Manish Tripathi talked about the experience of designing clothes for Lord Rama’s idol and described the process as magical and divine. He also talked about the colours he used in outfits for different days of the week. He said,

It was totally mystical, magical, and beyond divinity. And, I don’t know, maybe I would say that it’s sheerly pure. I don’t have words to express my feelings because I never imagined that, you know, for every designer, we dream to dress up celebrities. But getting a chance to design for somebody who’s, I would say, the universal celebrity was a big, big thing. I can’t express it in words, As I’ve been working and connected to this domain, I knew Bhagwan hai, he is Pitambar and he should wear Yellow on the day of Utsav. That was in my mind. But the trick was to make the pattern for that particular idol and by God’s grace, it happened.”

Manish Tripathi is an ardent follower of spiritual leader Neem Karoli Baba.

In December 2020, Manish Tripathi came up with an idea to create a World Record by making the world’s largest mask. He decided to make a mask of 100 sq m of cloth, which he wanted to collect from different states of India. In an interview, he talked about making the world’s largest mask and revealed that it helped many causes like it promoted the idea of using a mask and also the mask will be made of Khadi which will help with the promotion of Khadi. He said,

“I undertook a 10,000 km long journey across the country and met with women members of self-help groups. Many of them are producing masks but when the vaccine comes out, the demand for masks will fall. Where at one level I wanted to help them move to producing alternative products, I also wanted to showcase khadi, a material which is gaining a lot of popularity across the world,I have been asked what the purpose of such an exercise is but the fabric used in making the mask will then be upcycled Our plan is to showcase khadi and we will use the fabric for making purses etc. By this time, if we are able to enter the mask in the Guinness Book, the fabric itself would have become a brand and its products will acquire a higher worth”

Career

He has constructed more than 130 temples both in India and overseas including Swami Narayan Temple in Gandhinagar, Ambaji Temple in Palanpur, Akshardham temple in Ahmedabad, and several others.

Ram Temple Construction

Around 32 years before the construction of the Ram Temple, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader, Ashok Singhal, reached out to Sompura in 1989-90 through the Birla family to create a design for the Ram temple. Sompura, accompanied by Ashok Singhal, visited the site for the first time to assess the land. In an interview, while talking about his first visit to the temple’s site with Ashok Singhal, he said,

Mr Ashok Singhal (former VHP leader) decided in 1988 that the temple should be constructed here and he reached out to GD Birla. Our family had been working with Mr Birla for decades. So I got a call from Mr Birla and he asked me to come to Delhi, visit Ayodhya with him and prepare the design for the temple. At that time, we were not allowed to take measuring tapes. I was told to just have a look around alone. It was very difficult for me to envision a temple without proper measurement. So, I used my feet and counted the steps. I remembered all the steps – from left to right, across, and replicated the design inside a big hall where I could take proper measurements.” [7]NDTV

Chandrakant prepared the design of the Ram temple in 1989. Later, Sompura and his sons, Ashish and Nikhil, enhanced the design of the temple, considering the project’s large scale. [8]CNBC TV 18 In November 2019, Sompura mentioned that about 40 per cent of the stone carvings had been finished. He alleged that the construction would be done within 24 to 30 months after laying the foundation.

Killing Her 4-year-old Son

In January 2024, Suchana Seth was accused of killing her 4-year-old son at a service apartment in Goa. Reportedly, she strangulated her son to death using a pillow or a towel. According to some sources, Suchana Seth went to Goa with her son on 6 January 2024, where she rented a service apartment in the Candolim area in North Goa. After staying there for two days, she asked the apartment staff to arrange a taxi for Bangalore as she had some work there. Although the staff members suggested she take a flight to Bangalore as the taxi cost Rs. 30,000 (much more than a flight ticket), Suchana said that she wanted to travel only by taxi. The hotel staff arranged a taxi on 8 January after which she left for Bangalore. When the hotel staff went to clean the room from which Seth had checked out, they found blood stains on a towel and immediately informed the Calangute Police about it. They also told the Police that when she left the hotel, her son was not with her, and her suitcase was very heavy. When the police called her called her to confirm the blood stains and her son’s whereabouts, she answered that the stains were due to her monthly periods and added that her son was with her friend in Margao. She also gave her friend’s address, which came out to be fake. Later, the police called the taxi driver and asked him to take Suchana Seth to the nearest police station. Suchana was arrested by the Calangute police at the Chitradurga police station with her son’s body in her travel bag and was taken back to Goa. Later, she was sent on remand for six days by a court in Mapusa town.

During the investigation, it was revealed that Seth tried to kill herself by slitting her wrists using a pair of scissors. Two bottles of cough syrup were found in the apartment, where she killed her son. Suchana was charged under Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence), and also under the Goa Children’s Act. [2]The Print Although the exact reason for the crime was not known, police suspected that Suchana’s strained relationship with her husband was a possible reason behind the crime.
