Criticizing Indian Medical Association (IMA)

In 2017, Vivek Bindra uploaded a video in which he talked about the importance of affordable healthcare in India. Indian Medical Association (IMA) later sent a legal notice of Rs 50 crores to Vivek Bindra and asked him to remove the video. In a Facebook post in February 2023, Vivek Bindra compared the Italian tiles and Morbi tiles and called Morbi tiles’ quality poor. Popular Indian motivational speaker Sandeep Maheshwari posted a YouTube video titled ‘Big Scam Exposed’  on 11 December 2023 in which he showed three boys who alleged that they were not learning any skill from a business course worth Rs 50,000, and the course company told them to earn the money back by selling the course and earning a commission when they asked for a refund. Although the names of Vivek Bindra and his companies were not taken in the video, many people speculated that the person referred to in the video was Vivek Bindra. Bindra later wrote in a community post that he wanted to talk to Maheshwari about the scam allegations and wrote that Maheshwari was deleting the positive comments about Bindra on his video.

Beating up his wife

On 6 December 2023, Vivek Bindra got married to Yanika Bindra, a makeup artist based in Ghaziabad, and the couple started to live in the Supernova West Residency in Noida’s Sector 94. Allegedly, on 7 December 2023, Vivek verbally and physically assaulted Yanika when she intervened in an altercation between Vivek and his mother, Prabha. He locked her inside a room and also tore her hair out. She was later admitted to the Kailash Deepak Hospital in Delhi. Yanika suffered injuries in several body parts, particularly in her ears as she complained that she could not hear anything.

Domestic Violence Allegations

While an online feud was going on between Vivek Bindra, Yanika’s husband, and Sandeep Maheshwari, a popular Indian motivational speaker, in December 2023, a video went viral in which Vivek was seen reportedly beating his wife, Yanika. After their marriage on 6 December 2023, the couple was living in the Supernova West Residency in sector 94 of Noida.

On 7 December 2023, just one day after their marriage, Vivek allegedly got into a verbal fight with his mother, Prabha, when Yanika tried to calm the situation; however, Vivek verbally and physically assaulted Yanika after locking her in a room and also broke her phone. Allegations of Steroid Abuse

Mike Thurston’s transformation from a ‘party animal’ to someone with a physique envied throughout the world, has brought about criticism from people who suspect that he used steroids to achieve his build. While steroids are not always illegal (except in the case of competitions), Mike Thurston’s claims that he has an all-natural build suggest that the composition of his body measurements has been achieved through exercise and eating well, a pill that people have found difficult to swallow. Steroids are known to aid people in the muscle-building process and when combined with exercise and a strict regime, can help one bulk and reach massive body proportions. Rohini, was tasked to ensure that the much backwards among the OBC communities could access the benefits of reservation for educational institutions and government jobs. Sub-categorisation aimed to create quotas within the 27% reservation to provide more opportunities for historically underrepresented and marginalised OBC communities. Controversy

The Liver Doctor’s Statements Against Ayurveda

Abby has made headlines on several occasions due to the filing of cases against him for his remarks about Ayurveda. In June 2021, Abby Philips, in an interview with a Malayalam YouTube channel named Lucy, criticized the use of herbal medicines for treating diseases, stating that they can cause harm to the liver. Following his remarks, a complaint was lodged against him with the Prime Minister’s grievance redressal cell by Sadath Dinakar, general secretary of the Ayurveda Medical Association of India (AMAI). The complainant accused Abby of spreading misinformation about Ayurveda and tarnishing the reputation of the Ayurvedic treatment method. The complaint was then forwarded to the National Medical Commission (NMC), which subsequently passed it on to the Kerala State Medical Council (KSMC). Thereafter, the KSMC issued a letter to Abby Philips seeking an explanation for his statements. In June 2022, the KSMC recommended dropping the charges against Abby Philips. ^[2]The News Minute KSMC’s recommendation read,

On examination of the explanation, it is found that the doctor has only spoken about liver disease caused by a particular medicine and has not misrepresented the ayurvedic system as a whole. As the doctor was found to have no intention of defaming alternative medical practices, we recommend the Council of Modern Medicine (another council of KSMC) to close the case.”

In September 2021, AYUSH Ministry sent a warning letter to Abby and threatened him with a defamation case over a YouTube video in which he questioned the effectiveness of Ayurveda. The ministry in its letter emphasized that spreading such misleading information amounts to intentionally damaging the reputation of AYUSH systems (traditional Indian systems of medicine) and undermining people’s trust in these traditional forms of medicine. Liver Doctor vs Himalaya Wellness

On 24 September 2023, a civil court in Bengaluru issued an order to suspend Abby’s account on X, formerly known as Twitter. This decision came in response to a complaint filed by the Himalaya Wellness Company, accusing Abby of making defamatory statements about the company. The complaint specifically challenged Abby’s assertion that Himalaya’s products were harmful, claiming that these allegations were unfounded. Assistant District Attorney

From August 1989 to May 1994, Gregory worked as an Assistant District Attorney at the New York County District Attorney’s Office, located at One Hogan Place, New York. During his time there, he handled cases related to different types of crimes in Trial Bureau 30 within the Trial Division. Additionally, he investigated and prosecuted cases related to organized crime related to drug manufacturing, distribution, and money laundering within the Investigation Division.

Trial Attorney

From May 1994 to May 1998, Gregory worked as a Trial Attorney at the Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, in both Manhattan and Westchester. In this role, he managed cases from the initial investigation through the trial process. Controversy

Sheindlin vs Brady

In this case, Gregory Sheindlin sued James Brady for defamation. Following Shiendlin’s successful representation of his clients against Brady in a New York court, the court ordered Brady to pay $1.7 million in compensation. Subsequently, Brady accused Sheindlin of wrongfully siphoning the money from him, leading to Sheindlin filing a defamation case against Brady. After the case, Brady made false statements, claiming that Sheindlin stole the money from him. As a result, Sheindlin filed a defamation lawsuit against Brady. Brady issued around 20 subpoenas (a legal order issued by a court that requires a person to appear in court as a witness or to produce certain documents or evidence relevant to a legal case) to various people, including judges, officials, attorneys, and a reporter. The New York State Office of Court Administration and the New York County District Attorney’s Office supported the judges and District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance, Jr. in their request to cancel the subpoenas. The court ruled on the motions and cancelled the subpoenas issued to the New York State judges and District Attorney Vance. The court also cancelled subpoenas served to some federal judges, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, New York Attorney General Letitia James, and a New York Post reporter. The court found that the subpoenas to the judges and officials were not justified because they didn’t have unique information relevant to the case. The subpoenas to the reporter were also not valid as the information sought was unrelated to the defamation claims. The court allowed the remaining subpoenas to move forward, resolving disputes about them in the future. However, it maintained the restriction on Brady issuing more subpoenas without court approval. In conclusion, some subpoenas were cancelled, and the court would handle the remaining ones as and when the disputes arose. ^[3]Casetext

Kiren Ahmed v. New York City Health

In May 2011, Kiran Ahmed filed a complaint against New York City Health Hospitals Corporation, Coney Island Hospital, Shandanu Rastogi, Soofia Rubbani, Jonathan Sheindlin, and Mark Harooni. The complainant sued them for medical malpractice, claiming that they didn’t provide proper care for an infant’s retinal disorder, leading to retinopathy of prematurity and detached retinas. The defendants asked the court to dismiss the case for which the court asked the defendants to prove that the plaintiff wasn’t harmed by any mistakes.
